Commission Rob

Creative work that helps people listen to place, encounter its stories and connect with the living world.

Sound, story and place

I work with cultural organisations, councils, museums, schools and community programmes to create thoughtful, accessible experiences rooted in listening.

A commission might begin with a landscape, a collection, a neighbourhood, a question or a group of people. I can develop a complete project or bring a distinct sound-led strand into a wider programme.

Three ways to work together

Commission formats

Swipe or drag to explore ways we can work together.

Place-based sound and story

Field recording, original writing, oral histories and sound design shaped into audio trails, installations, performances or digital experiences.

Useful for: heritage, parks, museums, public realm and place programmes.

Participatory listening

Listening walks, workshops and facilitated creative activity that invite people to notice, record, write and share their relationship with place.

Useful for: community engagement, wellbeing, consultation and environmental programmes.

Stories for schools and families

Original folklore-inspired stories, live storytelling and creative workshops that connect children with local landscapes, wildlife and heritage.

Useful for: schools, festivals, libraries, museums and family programmes.

A specialist creative strand

Bring me into a programme that already exists

You do not need to commission a stand-alone project. I can join an established delivery team as a sound artist, writer or facilitator, contributing field recording, participatory listening, original story or audio production.

This works particularly well where a lead organisation already holds the relationships, recruitment and programme management, and wants a distinctive creative response to place.

Who I work with

  • Local authorities and cultural partnerships
  • Museums, galleries and heritage organisations
  • Schools, libraries and family programmes
  • Community and environmental organisations
  • Artists, producers and multidisciplinary teams

Professional delivery

Commissions are developed around clear aims, audiences, timescales and budgets. Depending on the brief, delivery can include research, co-creation, facilitation, sound production, written material, public events and evaluation evidence.

I am equally comfortable working independently or as part of a wider project team.
